The North Georgia Health District has us on a call list in case they ever need additional resources. With CERT being one of those resources, they are required by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) to conduct drills to test the capability to request us.
At approximately 10:01 last Thursday morning, they conducted one of those drills, asking us to contact our CERT Teams to see how many members could respond and how quickly they could be contacted. Out of 71 total, we had 46 members report they were available. 35 of those reporting told us they received the message by way of a new group text we have started using. This drill will help show any weakness or breakdown in communications between the district and individual counties and show what kind of manpower response can be generated quickly. Several other counties in the North Georgia Health District have CERT Teams and also participated.

Also on Thursday, we received a call that an elderly gentleman had gotten his car stuck on a US Forest Service road near the end of Hell’s Hollow Rd. He had walked out to get help, then he walked back to his car, even though the person helping him was not able to get all the way in to his car with a tractor. The gentleman had not returned home by sundown, so we sent 2 teams with four-wheelers in to search for him. 2 US Forestry Service officers also assisted in the search for the missing man. He was located by one of our crews at around 10:30 Thursday night.
He was wet and cold, but otherwise uninjured.

Saturday night, we responded to the Noontootla area near Three Forks Falls to transport 2 people back to Blue Ridge. They had been hiking, and when they returned to their vehicle at around 7:00PM, the truck would not start, leaving them stranded. Rescue 3 and US Forest Service responded to the call.
