Fannin Has Mixed Results in ETC Tipoff Tournament Opener

The Fannin Lady Rebels and Rebels hit the court on Saturday against the Pickens Dragonettes and Dragons in the opening day of the 5th annual ETC Tipoff Tournament and saw the team have mixed results, as the Lady Rebels rallied back and came up just short of a victory and the Rebels dominated in all four quarters of play. The first game between these two schools pitted the girls’ teams against each other. The Lady Rebels matched the Dragonettes stride-for-stride in the first quarter of play, resulting in Fannin only trailing by one once it came to a close.

However, the second quarter would prove to be a different story for the Lady Rebels. They were outscored 18-2 in the second quarter, leading to a massive game of catch-up in the second half.

Although the Lady Rebels started firing on all cylinders in the fourth and outscored the Dragonettes 20-4, it just wasn’t enough to complete the comeback. The Lady Rebels went on to lose by the final score of 47-39.

Lindsey Humphrey led the Lady Rebels in scoring and rebounding with eleven points and seven rebounds in the loss. Following close behind in scoring was Hope Cochran, who ended the contest with a total of seven points. Courtney Satterfield finished with four points and five rebounds.

Next up in the docket of games was the boys’ matchup between these two schools, a matchup that would see Fannin’s boys avenge the loss by the girls.

The Rebels jumped out to a commanding 23-9 lead, a lead that Fannin would not relinquish throughout the rest of the game. When it was all said and done, the Rebels came out on top by the final score of 54-36.

Will Patterson had an outstanding first game of the tournament, scoring twenty points in the victory. Austin Rhodes did his part in helping the Rebels get the job done, scoring sixteen points and bringing down seven rebounds.

Both of Fannin’s teams will play again on Monday in the second day of the ETC Tipoff Tournament with matchups against Gilmer. The Lady Rebels and Lady Cats will face off at 6:00 p.m. with the boys’ matchup coming at its conclusion.
