Sharon Ann Allen, 72, of Hayesville, NC passed away at her home surrounded by family on November 16, 2012 following an extended illness.
She was born July 16, 1940 in Yankton, SD, the daughter of the late William B. and Helen Desmond. She married Dale L. Allen of Marshall, MN in 1970. She received her Medical Technologist Degree from the University of South Dakota and worked at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, TX and The National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD before retiring in 1995 from Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
Her passion outside work was gardening and cooking. She was an expert in microwave cooking and taught classes for seven years in the early 1980s. Her teaching included numerous television appearances while living in Wichita, KS.
Survivors include her husband, Dale L. Allen; twin daughters, Dr. Denise A. Brown and husband Scott of Cumming, GA, Jennifer A. Aase and husband Paul of Cumming, GA; four grandchildren, Caroline Aase, Meredith Aase, Amelia Brown and Carter Brown. She is survived by a brother William B. Desmond and his wife Marge Desmond of Prattville, AL, a sister Mary Gardiner and husband Jerry of Sioux City, IA, and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Allen’s name.
Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville, GA is in charge of arrangements.
