On November 1st, 46 sophomores and 18 seniors from Fannin High School visited Young Harris College and North Georgia Technical College’s Blairsville Campus. As part of the GACHE (Georgia Appalachian Center for Higher Education) Grant students are exposed to college campuses and the programs that they offer. We went to YHC first, had a presentation in the chapel, a walking tour of the campus, and lunch in their cafeteria. After that we headed to NGTC for a presentation and tour of program facilities. Students were exposed to course offerings in culinary, business, medical, cosmetology, criminal justice, and a curriculum of transfer credits.
We at Fannin High School are encouraging our students to move the finish line from high school graduation to post-secondary and career success. By visiting campuses and experiencing college life, hopefully students will embrace the idea of post-secondary education for themselves.
