BRES Observe Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is a week where students have the opportunity to commit to a drug free life. Each grade at Blue Ridge Elementary School was involved in a different activity throughout October 23rd- October 31st.
Tuesday, October 23- 5th grade watched a video of celebrities who chose to follow their passion instead of doing drugs. Each 5th grader had the opportunity to identify what activity/hobby/passion they would choose instead of doing drugs. They also had the opportunity to enter an essay or poem contest! Winners: 1st place Lexi McGill, 2nd place Aja Morris, and 3rd place Alyssa Rhodes!

Wednesday, October 24- 4th grade listened to the story of how Red Ribbon Week began and identified the effects drugs have on the users. They had the opportunity to enter a poster contest! Winners: 1st place Gavin Myers, 2nd place Lainey Panter, 3rd place Brady Martin!

Thursday, October 25- 1st grade decorated the sidewalk outside the gym with sidewalk chalk. They were able to draw pictures and write drug free messages!

Friday, October 26- 2nd grade performed peer pressure skits with their classmates. We discussed how to respond to peer pressure and how it related to drug use!

Monday, October 29- 3rd grade rescheduled due to inclement weather

Tuesday, October 30- Kindergarten released red balloons to commit to a drug free life!

Thursday, November 1- 3rd grade took a field trip to the community garden to “Plant the Promise”. They planted red tulip bulbs to commit to a drug free life, and when the bulbs bloom in the spring it will serve as a reminder to their commitment!

All classes got to sign a red ribbon for their grade to commit to leading a drug free life!
