Virginia Foster Knudsen : Obituary

The Cochran Funeral Home & Crematory of Hiawassee announces the death of Mrs. Virginia Foster Knudsen, age 97, who peacefully passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home.

Virginia was born on May 29, 1915 in Shelby County, Tennessee, a daughter to the late Herbert & Idell Buchanan Harris. She was a devoted wife and nurturing mother; the epitome of a southern belle. A lady with class, she has never been heard saying an ill word or complaint. She supported her family in all their endeavors with tender love and really was the wind beneath their wings. Especially, for her husband of 35 years, Kenneth Foster who had a career in public service. He passed away in 1972, but over the years Virginia would frequently prepare her home and open it to host dinner guests for her husband. A member of First Presbyterian Church in West Palm Beach, Florida. She had a strong walk with her Lord. Gifted with a true servants heart, she had never been one to stand out, but was behind the scenes to accomplish what needed to be done. Evidence of this is the 250 sweaters she made to send to people who were in need and the 30 years she volunteered as Auxiliary member of her local hospital. She lived by the message found in Matthew, Chapter 6 that good deeds need not be trumpeted, but done in secret to receive heavenly rewards. As a personal hobby, Virginia took up painting. She had a natural talent that led her to paint some of the most beautiful portraits and Orientals. She would tell her friends and family to always, “shoot for the moon because you will at least land in the stars”.

She will be forever remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: daughter & son-in-law, Susan and Curt Rhoades; grandchildren, Scott, Kenneth, Tamara and Ginny Sue Rhoades; and 8 great grandchildren. Her legacy will surely pass on forever!

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Cochran Funeral Home & Crematory of Hiawassee.
