Kiker Survives Recount!

R. Scott Kiker survived a recount for Fannin County Probate Judge today. Previously, Kiker and Julie Fitts-Queen emerged from the July 31st election in a runoff. Held August 21st, the runoff proved to be a tough and tight race. On August 31st, the Fannin County Board of Elections released the official results from the race, which came several weeks after election night partially due to provisional ballots.

Last week’s results showed Kiker winning the race by a mere 29 votes, earning 2383 votes or 50.31 percent, where Fitts-Queen came up short, receiving 2354 votes or 49.69 percent. According to Marry Ann Conner at the board of elections, Fitts-Queen requested a recount yesterday, which was executed this morning at 10:00 A.M. FYN received the results early this afternoon.

The results of the recount are the same as the first count; Kiker received 2383 (50.31 percent) and Fitts-Queen, 2354 (49.69 percent).

Mr. Kiker will be sworn-in as Fannin County’s new probate judge in January.
