We will be providing a Fire Truck for West Fannin Elementary School’s Wet n Wild day on August 30 between 12:30 and 2:00PM with a rain date of August 31.

Fannin County’s CERT Teams (Community Emergency Response Team) will be manning a First-Aid booth at the annual Labor Day BBQ on Monday September 3. They will have information available on home emergency preparedness.

September is National Preparedness Month. (See news release below weekly report). Commission Chairman will sign a proclamation declaring September as Preparedness Month in Fannin County 8-31-2012 at noon during commission meeting.

Fannin County Emergency Management Agency Urges Participation in National Preparedness Month
Blue Ridge. The Georgia Emergency Management Agency’s Ready Georgia campaign and Fannin County Emergency Management Agency are encouraging residents to take simple, but important, preparedness steps in honor of National Preparedness Month this September.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Ready America campaign, National Preparedness Month was founded to increase awareness and encourage action for emergency preparedness nationwide.

Throughout the month, Ready Georgia and Fannin County Emergency Management Agency will join a nationwide coalition of thousands of private, public and nonprofit organizations, each hosting local events and initiatives designed to motivate people to take the necessary steps to ensure that their homes, workplaces and communities are prepared for disasters and emergencies of all kinds.

“A recent survey of our state’s residents revealed that many have not stocked up on critical emergency supplies or performed crucial activities that would prepare them for a large-scale disaster,” said Robert Graham of Fannin County Emergency Management Agency. “National Preparedness Month serves as a good reminder that we all have a responsibility in protecting ourselves, our families and our communities. By acting on Ready Georgia’s simple message of ‘prepare, plan and stay informed,’ Georgians have the power to become their own first responders during emergency situations.”

For more information on how to prepare, plan and stay informed of natural and manmade disasters or pandemic outbreaks, individuals and families can visit ready.ga.gov. By creating a Ready profile, Georgians can also receive a tailored plan for the entire family that includes the specific amount of supplies to put in their household Ready kits. In addition, Ready Georgia has created a mobile app for preparedness information on the go.

Preparedness is just a click away, and with September being National Preparedness Month, now is the best time to get Ready, Georgia.
