The following is a press release from the Polk County TN Sheriff’s Office:On August the 17th 2012 at approximately 2:35 p.m. the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance in the Grassy Creek area of the county. Upon arrival officers found that there were three gunshot victims at the scene. Dead at the scene were Wanda Waters, age 59 of Copperhill and her son; Marion Doug Waters, age 40 also of Copperhill.
The third victim, Willard J. Waters age 61, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time after arrival. Willard Waters was the husband of Wanda Waters and the father of Marion Doug Waters.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office along with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation investigated the incident.
Detectives with the sheriff’s department have charged George Steven Waters, age 33 also of Copperhill with three counts of First Degree Homicide. George Stevens Waters is a nephew of Willard and Wanda Waters and the first cousin of Marion Doug Waters.
The incident is still under unvestigation at this time and FYN will bring you any updates.
FYN reports after speaking with the TN clerk of the court’s office, Mr. Waters was arraigned on Wednesday, August 22nd and plead not guilty. A local judge had to remove himself from the case and alternate legal council from Nashville will appoint a judge in the case. A pre-hearing is scheduled for November 14th, 2012.
