Ross’ Ripped Single Secures Rousing 8-7 Rebel Land Rising Over Rabun

The Fannin County High School Lady Rebels softball team hosted the Lady Wildcats of Rabun County. In a back and forth contest that saw the Lady Rebels needing the last at bat to win it, Morgan Ross’ RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Candace “Blitzkrieg” German and secured the victory for Fannin.The day began with the junior varsity squad posting a 7-3 win over its visiting counterpart. Afterwards, due to Rabun’s arrival being later than anticipated, the varsity game began with no introductions.

The Lady Wildcats came to claw victory away from the home team early, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning. The Lady Rebels answered right back.

Emily Morgason tied the game with a two run triple that scored Karly Thompson, and Kiersten Seagle, who was courtesy running for catcher Amy Mintz. The Lady Rebels took the lead on the very next at bat on Mallory Deal’s RBI bunt, the last score of the inning.

The Lady Rebels padded the lead further perplexing the paws of the Lady Wildcats in the bottom of the fourth. Deal’s RBI single scored Seagle again and the Lady Rebels took a 4-2 lead into the top of the fifth.

Rabun refused to retract, as the Lady Wildcats scored five runs in the top of the fifth, putting Rabun up 7-4.

The Lady Rebels answered rose to the occasion, answering right back once again. Following a Fannin fly out, Missy Dixon hit a line drive triple to center field. Dixon scored on a RBI sac ground out from Jace Armstrong, to make the score 7-5.

Armstrong scored on Thompson’s RBI single. Mintz’s RBI double scored Armstrong and tied the game at 7-7 going into the sixth.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the seventh. German led off with a single. Thompson followed with sac bunt that put German on second. A Mintz walk put women on first and second.

Josie Milsaps’ sac fly moved both women over one base. Morgason walked to load the bases, and Ross rescued the raucous Rebel faithful of Fannin fans’ dreams of victory with the aforementioned RBI single.

The Lady Rebels next host the Gilmer Lady Bobcats, before a rematch with Rabun at Rabun.
