FYN has confirmed that complaints against Sheriff Dane Kirby have been filed with the Georgia Secretary of State. According to the Fannin County Board of Elections, two formal complaints against Kirby were made last week to the board, which were then forwarded to Georgia’s Secretary of State Office and filed. In a conversation with FYN last week, the board said the secretary of state’s office has assigned two investigators to look further into the complaints.
When asked, Kirby said he was not aware of any complaints made against him, adding that the board of elections has not contacted him to make him aware of the matter. The Sheriff said he did know what they could be and did not wish to speculate.
Blue Ridge Police Chief Johnny Scearce, who ran against Kirby, could not be reached for comment. FYN has also placed a call to the secretary of state’s office and is still waiting for a response.
Sheriff Kirby won Tuesday’s Primary with 53.54 percent and Scearce received 46.46 percent of the votes.
