Jean H. Underwood : Obituary

Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the death of Mrs. Jean H. Underwood, age 79 of Blue Ridge, GA who passed on Saturday, July 07, 2012. Mrs. Underwood was born on January 1, 1933 in Fannin County, GA to the late Georgie Howard. She retired after twenty-four years as secretary for First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge and served twenty-two years as secretary of the Morganton Baptist Association. Mrs. Underwood was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School, worked with the youth and was a choir member. Mrs. Underwood was a member of the Blue Ridge Homemakers Club.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Dan Underwood of Blue Ridge, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Tony Lynn and Tammy Underwood of Louisville, KY; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ronnie Weaver of Blue Ridge, GA, Teresa and Pat Tolan of Waleska, GA and Doris Underwood of Winder, GA; grandchildren, Pamela Trusty (Tim) of Blue Ridge, GA, Ashley Whealton (Alex) of Columbus, GA, Tara Mudd (Jason) of Louisville, KY, Dylan Underwood of Louisville, KY, Nicholas Tolan and Lindsey Tolan both of Waleska, GA also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from Temple Baptist Church with Dr. Roger Beck and Rev. Bradley Elliott officiating. Mrs. Underwood will lie in state at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour of 2:00 p.m. Music will be by Temple Church Choir, Karen and Steve Jones, Imogene Stewart, Greg Norton, Bill Sowers, Cindy Petty, Pamela Trusty, Doris and Tony Underwood and the Underwood siblings. Pallbearers will be Deacons of Temple Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Copper Ridge Memorial Gardens with Rev. Harold Willis officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 8, 2012 after 1:00 p.m. but especially from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made Fannin Christian Learning Center or MACAA.
