Melissa Winstead Barnett failed to qualify last week to run in the race for Fannin County Probate Judge. Barnett was attempting to qualify under pauper status in lieu of paying the qualifying fee. If you cannot pay the qualifying fee you can get your name on the ballot by filling out a pauper’s affidavit proving your income status. Another requirement is to get signatures of one percent of the eligible votes.
Barnett let FYN know Friday that out of 182 signatures 45 were disqualified. This put Barnett under the required number of signatures necessary to get her name on the ballot for the July 31st. primary.
This comes on the heels of Barnett being arrested for allegedly theft by conversion on May 24th.
