FCHS, FCMS, and Taylor; Forever Dancing

On Thursday May 10th, both the Fannin County High School (FCHS) and the Fannin County Middle School Chorus (FCMS) presented , “Dancing, Dancing, Dancing, Forever Dancing,” their final concert of the school year. The FCHS chorus began the concert by performing a total of nine songs from both past artists and modern artists, followed by a performance of a “Back to the 50’s” medley by the FCMS chorus. At the end of the concert, both the FCHS and FCMS chorus closed the show together with the disco song “Disco Fever”.

It was an emotional night for students, as the concert also marked the last show for the FCHS and FCMS Choral Director, Lois Taylor, who is retiring at the end of the year.

Taylor told FYN of the last concert, “The concert itself was planned. We wanted to do our favorite songs. We wanted to do what we wanted to do, and have a fun concert, and not a technical concert.”

The FCHS Chorus were given the freedom to choose what to sing in the show themselves.

“Everything in the first half of the concert the high school students choreographed, planned the music, and practiced in secret,” Taylor spoke of the song material, “I worked with the middle school on their 50’s music, and then the finale, the disco, was my decision. We did disco back five years ago, and we had so much fun with it. That was my era!” Taylor laughed. “That was my finale and my choice. It was kind of like everybody getting to do their own stuff and the songs they wanted to do. The most impressive thing was that they planned and choreographed all of the beginning own their own.”

Although she is leaving as the Choral Director, Taylor hinted that she herself will be dancing into a new life, “I’m happy that I have yet another life to live, but sad because it’s an end of an era. I’m real proud of all those kids.”

Taylor will host one more concert event this year where some of the students from the FCHS chorus will perform. The concert will be a “World Trade Center” artifact dedication, and will be held on Thursday, June 14, at 11:00 a.m. in the Blue Ridge Veterans Park. The show is in honor of the FCHS 9/11 Memorial Chorus, and being coordinated to remember all of the people who lost their lives on September 11th. At the show, Taylor will dedicate an artifact from one of the World Trade Centers to be displayed in the city of Blue Ridge. Everyone is invited and FYN will bring you complete coverage of the event.
