Fannin Fire Department Brings Own “Big Bang Theory”

The Fannin County Fire Department held a training class on putting out propane fires. Folger Gas donated 233.5 gallons of propane gas, in order for the 20 fire fighters, 14 rookies, to complete the training class. Hank Hill was unavailable for comment.The class was supervised by the aptly named Sharon Sparks, a State Fire and Public Safety Field Instructor. Sparks was assisted by Battalion Chiefs, Ryan McDarig and Rodney Kendall.

Fannin Fire Chief, Larry Thomas, was pleased with the turn out,

“We filled the class right off the bat.”

It is recommended that the class be taken every two years; however, according Thomas,

“A lot of people are volunteers and don’t have time to take it every two years.”

The fire fighters, dressed in full protective gear, engaged the blaze in two teams, one for putting the actual flame out, and the other for safety.

The team that confronted the tank, was instructed to use a straight line approach to first cool the tank then a “fog pattern” as the team approached close proximity of the tank to “push the flame back.”

Thomas pointed out that, “it’s all about nozzle control, “and that, “if one of them (the firefighters engaging the tank) deviates it could cause problems.”
