Mr. Alfred James Davenport, age 83, of Blue Ridge, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2012 in the Copper Basin Medical Center. Born in Fannin County, GA on February 3, 1929, he worked in the timber industry as a logger. He was a member of O’Zion Baptist Church and was a deacon for fifty-five years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Arny Davenport and daughter, Frances Davenport Landen.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, David and Brenda Davenport of Chatsworth, GA, Danny and Becky Davenport of Blue Ridge, GA and Tracy and Debbie Davenport of Blue Ridge, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Leaman and Ethel Davenport of Blue Ridge, GA; sister, Eva Mae Stanley of Chatsworth, GA; brother-in-law, Grady Key of Dalton, GA and sister-in-law, Jannell Davenport of Dalton.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 9, at 2:00 p.m. at O’Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Thrasher, Rev. Joe Dan Wilkins and Rev. Michael Pope officiating. Music will be by O’Zion Baptist Church Choir. Pallbearers will be Jamie Davenport, Brandon Davenport, Dane Davenport, Glen Davenport, James Aaron and Bryan Tipton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons of O’Zion Baptist Church and area ministers. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, April 7, 2012 and Sunday, April 8, 2012 after 6:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge is in charge of the arrangements.
