Mack Slagle Patton a native of Macon County, son of Robert and Mamie Slagle Patton, he was born March 23, 1921.Mack was a graduate of North Carolina State University at Raleigh and served in the Air Forces during World War II. He was a long-time leader in the beef cattle industry, as former president of the North Carolina Cattlemen’s Association, Director of Education for the American Polled Hereford Association and president of Patton Cattle Services.
He was married to Sarah Witherspoon of Murphy, who died in 2009. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald Andrew Patton.
Surviving are a daughter, Mamie Patton of Murphy, a son Robert and his wife Setsuko and their three children: Sarah Patton Posner of New York, Andrew Patton of New York, and Elaine Patton of Los Angeles.
Services Saturday, February 11, 2012 11:00 AM First United Methodist Church of Murphy with interment in Sunset Cemetery.
