John Smith, Jr. : Obituary

Retired Col. John Howard Smith,Jr. age 78 of Hayesville, NC, passed away February 2, 2012 at Missions Hospital, St. Joseph’s Campus, Ashville, NC.Smith was born May 21, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA to the late John H. Smith, Sr. and the late Irma Phillips Smith. He was a member of Christ the King Church of Hiawassee, Ga. Col Smith retired from the United States Air Force after 30 years of service. He was a graduate of the University of Miami with a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, and worked for the government as an engineer until retirement.

Survivors include: wife, Bertie L. Smith, of Hayesville, NC, son, John H. Smith III, of Fredericksburg, VA daughter & son-in-law, Julie (Greg) Cunningham, of Augusta, GA, Brother, Edgar Smith, of Pompano Beach, FL brother, David Smith, of Pompano Beach, FL and 5 grandchildren.

Memorial Service: Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Christ the King Church with the Pastor Don O’Malley officiating. Military Services provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
