Rebels Rise at “Rumble on the Ridge”

The Fannin County High School wrestling team had a come from back weekend. After Fannin fell in a road dual meet to the Dragons of Pickens County, getting scorched 66-15, the Rebels rose at the Rumble on the Ridge. The Rebels, the host team of the dual style tournament, placed third with a 3-1 record. The Rebels only loss came at the hands of Blessed Trinity, the tournament’s first place team. Dawson County finished second.The Rebels were forced to “Remember the Titans” of Blessed Trinity as Fannin fell, 61-18 in both teams first match up of the day.

The Rebels next went to town on Towns County, scalping the Indians 60-18.

The Indians of Stephens County proved to have reservations about being removed from the Rumble, as the two teams tied 42-42 in points; however, the Rebels rose to the rank of victor due to “criteria.” Fannin was awarded the win due to a “forcive slam” penalty on the Indians that occurred during the 152 lbs match.

Rebel Austin Teems was hospitalized “mostly just for precautions,” according to head coach Joshua Snider, after landing on his head and neck during the slam. Teems was reportedly “laughing and joking” and good spirits shortly after the injury.

The Rebels next went to war with the Riverside Military Academy, winning 42-36, securing the third place finish.

The Rebels next face rival host Hayesville and rival Gilmer. Many local wrestling fans may be in attendance as the Fannin, Gilmer dual meet will not only feature a match up between to rival schools, but also the first ever meeting between, Joshua Snider, and his father Sam Snider, the head coach of the Gilmer High School wrestling team.
