Michael “Beef” Rhodes : Obituary

Mr. Michael Anthony Rhodes, better known as “Beef”, age 54, of McCaysville, GA passed away on Monday November 7, 2011 at his home. Born in Albertville, AL he was the son of the late James Carol Rhodes. He graduated from Georgia Southern with a degree in secondary education and a minor in political science. Mike served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the Church of Blue Ridge. Mr. Rhodes had worked for Bill’s One Stop Gas Station for many years. He wrestled for twenty seven years and coached football for Copper Basin High School and Bulloch Academy in Statesboro, GA.

Survivors include his wife of thirty two years, Kathy W. Rhodes of the home; children and their spouses: Marc White of Blue Ridge, GA, Michelle and Lance Queen of Blue Ridge, GA, Laura and Clifford Payne of Epworth, GA and Michael Rhodes II and fiancée Amanda Cross of Copperhill, TN; grandchildren, Faith White and John Payne; mother, Barbara Rhodes of Hortense, GA; brother and wife, Danny and Tina Rhodes of Waycross, GA; sister and husband, Janet and Ross Flowers of Hortense, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Danny and Trisha White of Hiawassee Dam, NC and Rich and Sherry White of Turtletown, TN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday November 9, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Daniel Postell and Rev. Chris Taylor officiating. Music will be provided by Mikey Rhodes, Randy Beach and Paula Helton. Interment will follow in the Friendship #3 Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Zachary White, Lance Queen, Clifford Payne, Dakota Knotts, Mike Presswood and Britt Jones. The following will serve as honorary pallbearers: Fannin County Sheriff’s office, Bill Jones and Johnny Scearce.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
