Doris Armstrong : Obituary

Mrs. Doris J. Armstrong, age 75, of Young Harris, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2011 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Armstrong was born on Monday, September 14, 1936, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Steve and the late Gladis Vaughn Prokay. She had lived in this area for 7 years, moving here from Belleview, Florida. She was of the Protestant faith, and was a member of the NCO Wive’s Club at Moody Air Force Base during the years of 1971-1975. Doris loved to sew and she sewed for other people. She loved to work crafts and made dolls and Christmas crafts to sell. Doris was a loving person and liked caring for others. Betty Cothran was a wonderful caregiver to Doris.

Doris will be missed by all who knew her, but especially her family: husband, Richard Armstrong, of Young Harris; son, David Armstrong, of Huntsville, Alabama; daughter, Donna Word, of Morganton, Georgia; siblings: Bud Prokay, Betty Blakemore, and Richard Prokay; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Doris had been preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Palm.

Private services are being planned.
