Emma Mae Powell Prince : Obituary

The Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill announces the death of Mrs. Emma Mae Powell Prince, age 90 of Murphy, NC who slipped away peacefully into her eternal home with Jesus on Sunday morning, October 23, 2011 surrounded by family at her home in the Wehutty community.She was born on January 21, 1921 in the Shoal Creek area of Murphy, NC daughter of the late Alonzo Clayton and Altie Roxanna Harris Powell. Mrs. Prince was a loving wife of the late J.C. (Jake) Prince who went to be with the Lord on October 4, 1987. Preceding her to heaven were three sisters, Ethel Brendle, Elsie Brendle and Helen Pack; and a beloved son-in-law Lynn Carr.

Surviving Emma are her eight children who adored her, Harold (Norma) Prince of Lincolnton, NC, Brenda (Mack) Helms of Belmont, NC, Barbara (Roger) Jenkins of Dallas, NC, Mitchell (Angie) Prince of Murphy, NC, Doug Prince of Murphy, NC, Diane Anderson of Murphy, NC, Linda Carr of Murphy, NC and Freda Prince of Lincolnton, NC; also surviving are her seven grandchildren, Chad Jenkins, David (Heather) Prince, Jennifer (Clyde) Comer, Jeffery Jenkins, April (Alan) Presswood, Andrea (Justin) Harris and Russell Anderson; two great grandchildren, Katelynn Emma Comer and Martin Anderson Prince. Emma had also adopted by love as grandchildren, Laura Laney and Joshua Collins. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins as well as a loving caregiver, Vickie Shelton.

Emma left behind a legacy of a life dedicated to God and instilled in her children the importance of always sharing love with one another. She will be remembered for her smiling face, soft touch and welcoming heart. She was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church where she loved singing in the choir and spending time with her brothers and sisters in Christ.

Funeral services will be at the Chapel of Akins Funeral Home in Copperhill on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Beavers and Rev. Hoyt Carr officiating. Music will be by Heather Prince, Tammy and Andy Ware. Pallbearers will be Chad Jenkins, David Prince, Jeffery Jenkins, Alan Presswood, Justin Harris and Joshua Collins. Honorary pallbearers Russell Anderson, Larry Pack, Ronnie Pack, Victor Pack, Marvin Hawkins, John Verner, Gary Loudermilk, Darrell Laney, Benny Loudermilk, Mitchell Loudermilk, Edward Dills, Larry Cheek, Tony Graham, Marc Loudermilk and Russ Loudermilk. Interment will be in the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with a White Dove Release concluding the service.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
