The Fannin County High School Lady Rebels softball team faced the Lady Lions of Lovett in the second round of the state playoffs, on Fannin’s home field. The Lady Rebels swept the best of three series, with two shutout victories (3-0, 6-0). Lady Rebels pitcher, Sadie Golden, pitched all 14 innings, allowing zero runs, and 11 base runners, only one reached base in the game one.

Game one began as a pitchers’ duel between Golden, and Jordan Wolf, as no runs were scored and only three base runners total reached first base, until the bottom of the fifth. Following two ground outs, Fannin’s Amy Mintz hit a single to center field. After Golden walked, to put women on first and second, Missy Dixon’s three run triple provided the only runs of the game.

The Lady Rebels leaped on the Lady Lions early in game two. Candace German led off with a double, which was followed by Dixon’s RBI single. Dixon eventually made it to second base, due to an overthrow at home plate. Following a Fannin fly out, which featured a great play by first basewoman, Sadie Sims, Alexis Collis’ RBI single scored Dixon. Fannin finished the inning up 2-0.

The score remained 2-0 in Fannin’s favor until the top of the sixth inning. Natalie McLaughlin’s pop fly was dropped by left fielder, Sydney Wolfe, and she reached first base due to the error. Ashley Watkins, legged out a bunt single to put women on first and second base. Following a Fannin strike out, Mintz’s RBI double, made the score 3-0 in Fannin’s favor, when McLaughlin crossed home plate. After a ground out, German came up to plate and “blitzkrieged” yet another home run, scoring three runs and putting the Lady Rebels up 6-0.

Fannin held on for the final inning and half of play to secure the 2-0 series win, and a birth in the third round of state playoffs, which will begin Thursday October 27th in Columbus Georgia.
