BOE Recognizes Board Member for Service to County

The Board of Education recognized long-standing board member Lewis DeWeese for his years of service to the board and education to the children of Fannin County.

At the October 13th Board of Education Meeting, on behalf of the board Superintendent Mark Henson recognized board member Lewis DeWeese for 19 years of service to the district. DeWeese was elected to the board on January 1st 1989 and, between then and now, only took off four years to pursue other endeavors.

“It’s just tremendous that you’ve served our children that long,”

Henson told DeWeese. The superintendent stressed both the trials and triumphs of serving on the board of education.

“You get to hear a lot of people’s problems, but you also get to see the rewards of what we’re doing here…but it is a hard job, a thankless job a lot of the time

.”

After thanking DeWeese for his dedication, Superintendent Henson ceremoniously gave him the appreciation pin and shook his hand. At the end of the meeting, DeWeese had the opportunity to thank the board for the kind gesture.

“I had dream,” he said, : and the dream was that all the people in Washington (DC) vacated the place and our school system, in an effort to help our country, sent all our administrators into their offices, to fill (in for the) President, Vice President, Attorney General, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, and each one of you all got to pick your office…and two years later our country was financially sound; we had peace and love through out the whole land and there was a rifle range all through out the United States.”

DeWeese’s soliloquy was met with high applause, which seemed to say that everyone shared his dream.

At the end, after the applause died, Superintendent Henson said that he was sure that Mr. DeWeese would be around for his 20th year of service.
