Tempers Flare at City Council Meeting Over Swan Drive-In

Featured Stories, News

Residents flocked to Blue Ridge City Hall earlier this week. As residents streamed inside the building, filling the chairs in the open area of the hall, two police officers took their stations near the doors, watching the crowd. The crowd muttered among themselves, some holding notepads, others, legal pads scrawled with extensive notes. Most of the crowd wore white and blue t-shirts with advertisements supporting the Swan Drive-In Theatre.

What started as a typical meeting on October 11th, though, flared into a heated debate between citizens and Council members. And, as the debate continued, even the Council members started to argue with each other. The reason for all the strife is the fate of Swan Drive-In Theatre. Residents fear the iconic theatre will close, while the city and owner hash out the details of the lease.

Watch residents voice their opinions, as Mayor Whitener and Council Members try to assuage their concerns.
