When They Sneeze-Witness!

Probably most of us who are Christians have read books, attended seminars, or had on-the-job training as to how to witness our faith. Some of the techniques can be very creative and some, I believe, are less than honest and offensive, but that is a story for a later time. I do offer one pretty unique way to share your faith. It is a response to the common sneeze.Sneezing actually offers a remarkable opportunity to witness. We live in a time when folks are very alert to any type of sales approach or direct witnessing. Not that direct witnessing is bad. Any type of witnessing is good, but some approaches are less likely to cause a defensive reaction.

Try this next time you see someone sneeze. Instead of saying “God bless you,” say “May God bathe you in blood.” You should get a funny look or reaction at this point. Here is the key to what I am proposing. The word “bless” comes from the old English word “bledsian.” Bledsian is derived from the word “blood.”

Scripture clearly says that forgiveness and blessing cannot come without shedding blood. Hebrews 9:22 says, “And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness (NASB).”

So, literally, God cannot bless someone unless blood has been shed. We do not rely on the blood of goats and bulls anymore, but we do place our trust in the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

Once the sneezer gives you the funny look, you can quickly explain to him or her that you want God to bless them but the only way He can is through the blood of Jesus. Pretty good huh?
