The Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the death of Mary Bob Abernathy Carnes Hogsed, age 77 of Ellijay, GA formally of the Copper Basin area, who passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2011 in the Copper Basin Medical Center in Copperhill, TN. She was born on September 4, 1934 in Polk County, TN to the late Robert Lamar and Hazel V. Cochran Abernathy. Mrs. Hogsed was educated at Emory University in Atlanta, GA and graduated from the Georgia Baptist Nursing College with a surgical nursing degree. She worked for over twenty years at Copper Basin Medical Center as Director of Nursing. Mrs. Hogsed was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church on Wolf Creek Road. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Hogsed; sons, Rex Carnes and Randall Carnes and brother, Claude Abernathy.

Survivors include sons, Jon Thor and wife, Peggy Carnes of Ellijay, GA and Julian Carnes of Ducktown, TN; step-son, Charles Hogsed of Blue Ridge, GA; daughter, Carina Ellis of Goose Creek, SC; step-daughter, Gail Hogsed of Murphy, NC; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Lina Beckler Paulson of Saint Simons Island, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Pastor Tommy Hayes officiating. Pallbearers will be Robert Ellis, Paul Ellis, Jr., Kirby Goforth, Michael Carnes, Hank Clayton and Allan Abernathy. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Clayton, David Wenrich, Don Rogers, Edward Rogers and William David Wright. Interment will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery.
