The Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the death of Mr. Alvie Richard Jones, age 84, of Blue Ridge, who passed away on Friday, September 2, 2011 at Heritage Health Care of Blue Ridge. He was born in Fannin County, GA on March 18, 1927 to the late Mark Hannah and Lela Angeline Foster Jones. Mr. Jones retired from Cities Service as a train car loader. He was a member and deacon of Sugar Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by wives, Martha Nell Patterson Jones and Delores Payne Jones; two brothers, Harlan Jones and Rev. Charlie Jones; and one granddaughter, Ginger R. Hall.

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kathy Jones of Jackson, SC; three daughters and sons-in-laws, Connie and Jerry Harrison of Mineral Bluff, GA; Jo Ann and Freddie Vick of Ellijay, GA and Betty Jones of Blue Ridge, GA; four brothers, Luther A. Jones of Blue Ridge, GA, Ernest Jones of Epworth, GA, Robert Jones of Blue Ridge, GA and Kenneth Jones of Blue Ridge, GA; three sisters, Lola Patterson of Blue Ridge, GA, Josephine Jones of Blue Ridge, GA and Ruth Guinn of TN; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from Sugar Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Williams and Rev. Jess Posey officiating. Mr. Jones will lie in state at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour of 2:00 p.m. Music will be by Lori and Logan O’Neal. Pallbearers will be Freddie Vick, Jerry Harrison, Jeff Vick, Kenneth McVey, Brian Higgins and Chris Williams. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
