Mrs. Dorothy Weatherford Towery Etheridge, age 83, passed away August 24, 2011 peacefully at her home in Blue Ridge.She was born May 16, 1928 in Jacksonville, FL to the late Charles Weatherford and the late Alice Alford Weatherford.
Dot was preceded in death by her first husband of 59 years, George Howard Towery and her oldest son, George Howard Towery Jr, she is survived by her husband and friend, Harry Etheridge, son, Richard E. (Jonnye) Towery, son, Donald Lee (Ruthann Strebler) Towery, daughter-in-law, Anne Towery, 4 grandchildren; Russell (Amy) Towery, Darien Towery, Brooke (John) Winn & Austin Towery, 6 great grandchildren, Ricky & Halee Klusmeier, Raleigh & A J Winn, Lou & Maddox Towery.
Before retiring and moving to Blue Ridge in 1983, Dot worked at Gulf Life for over 30 years. In Jacksonville, she and Howard were members of the Murray Hill Baptist Church. In Blue Ridge they were members of First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge with the Rev. Harold Willis & Dr.Charlie Howell officiating. Music provided by: Brian Huffman and Ione O’Neill. Interment will be in Toccoa Baptist Church Cemetery in Lakewood, GA.
The family will receive friends at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, Thursday, August 25, 2011 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Amedisys Hospice of Fannin County or Gideons International through the Memorial Bible Plan.
