The Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the death of Mr. William Powell Hoover, age 79, of McCaysville, GA who passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011 in the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, GA.Mr. Hoover was the son of the late Frank William Hoover and Edna Roberts Hoover. He was a retired educator having served as a teacher at West Fannin High School, principal at Morganton Elementary, principal and assistant superintendent of schools in Cherokee County, GA, and as a field supervisor with the Georgia Department of Education. He was a member of First Baptist Church of McCaysville where he taught a Men’s Sunday School Class. Mr. Hoover was an ordained minister, a member of the Georgia Retired Educators Association, was an avid golfer, and served in the United States Navy Reserves. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Hoover.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hoover of McCaysville; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Chuck Phillips of Boca Raton, Florida; two grandchildren, Matthew Phillips and Zachary Phillips. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Harry Gilbert officiating. Music will be by Katie Gilbert.
