Willa Mae (Floyd) Stephens : Obituary

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Willa Mae Floyd Stephens, age 91, of Blairsville, Georgia, who passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011. Mrs. Stephens was born in Hiwassee Dam, North Carolina, on December 25, 1919, a daughter of the late John Floyd and Nora Crain Floyd. She had lived in the Blairsville area since 1958, and was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Stephens. Mrs. Stephens had been a member of Reids Chapel Methodist Church in Hiwassee Dam for 81 years. Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Stephens; a son-in-law, Steve Thomas; a sister, Gladys Walls; and three brothers: George Floyd, Clyde Floyd, and Paul Floyd.

She is survived by and will be lovingly missed by: two daughters: Gwyneth McKenzie Murphy Yaita, of Hiwassee Dam, North Carolina; Gizelle “G.G.” Thomas, of Morganton, Georgia; two brothers, Ernest Floyd and Casteel Floyd, both of Hiwassee Dam; grandchildren: Sleana and Jackie Cook, David and Mary Murphy, Lisa Renbarger, and Shirley and Casey Bryson, all of Blairsville; Brad and Trish Thomas, Justin Thomas, and Brittany Thomas, all of Morganton; great grandchildren: Whitney and Chelsey Cook, Faith and Jaden Murphy, Jeremy and Morgan Renbarger, Tyler, Amber, and Logan Bryson, Hailee and Hannah Mealer, and Emily Thomas.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday evening, May 31, 2011, at 7:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Young officiating.

The family will meet with friends on Tuesday, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Stephens will be buried in Reids Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.
