Ask Dr. Kent . . .

I have been playing volleyball and walking /running lately. My ankles, knees and hips usually start to hurt after participating in these activities. What could cause that at the age of 22?

I have just recently started an exercise routine in one of the local gyms and I am trying to cope with the same problems.

If these are new activities for you and you have not done them before or for a very long time, it could be due to deconditioning and your body not being used to the new sports activities. You may need to perform stretches before and after to help your body adjust. In the meantime, you can try an anti-inflammatory medicine like ibuprofen or Motrin as needed. Sometimes icing the joints after activity can also help.
