The Union County Panthers’ baseball team was declawed at the hands of the Fannin High School Rebels. The Rebels clinched the 8A-AA sub-region championship with the 5-2 win.Pitcher Tyler McClure’s complete game featured 12 strike outs and two unearned runs on five hits.
The game was a nail biter with the Rebels up by a run 2-1 heading to the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Daniel Roper’s RBI hit scored McClure from third base. James Bennet followed with a two run home run that increased the Rebels’ lead to 5-1.
The Panthers did not “go quietly in to that good night.” Union scored one run and loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, before McClure’s strike outs ended the game and secured the sub-region championship.
