Naomi Cummings : Obituary

Naomi Belle Cummings, age 90, passed away Monday March 21, 2011 in the Union County Nursing Home. Ms. Naomi was born on July 9, 1920 to Edward and Ella Norris in Huntington, Ohio. She lived in many areas of the country but before coming to Blairsville in her latter years, she resided in Vero Beach, FL and Bryson City, NC. In Bryson City she was pianist for Hillside Baptist Church and also at Grace Christian Academy. The Lord truly blessed Ms. Naomi with a musical gift that she shared with others all of her life. While at Union County Nursing home she played in the talent shows and played for quarterly memorial services. She worshiped the Lord with her music and all who heard her play enjoyed a true worship experience.

Ms. Naomi was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, John W. Swesey. She is survived by their three children: Patricia Sumner, Anderson SC, Robert (Kay)Swesey, Wellington, Ohio and Mary (Harry)Cox, Blairsville, GA. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Jack V. Cummings and is survived by her step-daughter, Cheryl (Clint) Dahlstrom, BC, Canada. Ms. Naomi was blessed to be called Grandma by 16 and loved as great-grandma by 36. She is also survived by other relatives and friends.

Family and friends will attend morning church service at Hillside Baptist Church in Bryson City on Sunday, April 3 in honor of Jack and Naomi.

A graveside funeral will be held at 2 pm Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Swain Memorial Park with Pastor Alemany and under the direction of Moody Funeral Home, Sylva, NC. You may send condolences online at www.moodyfh.com. Cochran Funeral Home also has an online obituary available for viewing.

A Memorial Service will be held at Union County Nursing Home under the direction of Georgia Mtn. Hospice. Date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, you may send contributions to Grace Christian Academy, P.O. Box 1099, Bryson City, NC 28713
