KSU Softball goes 3-0 at Georgia Tech Buzz Classic

The Kennesaw State Owls went 3-0 this weekend at the rain-shortened Georgia Tech Buzz Classic, defeating Boston University, 5-4, and Niagara, 12-1 on Friday evening before taking down Austin Peay, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon.
The Owls, who were originally slated to play five games in the event before the weather intervened, hammered out 12 runs on on nine hits against Niagara, including a 3-for-4, 6 RBI performance by Lindsay Vollmer. Their Sunday match-up with Austin Peay was a pitcher’s duel, as Jessica Cross carried the Owls from the pitcher’s circle, allowing just one hit while striking out eight in the shutout performance.

Their weekend opener against Boston University came down to the wire, as they entered the bottom of the seventh inning trailing, 4-3, before Cross led things off with a home run to left field to tie the game. They would go on to win with two outs and the bases loaded on an infield single by Jensen Hackett.

Sharon Swanson, who has been the Owls best offensive weapon thus far this season, went 4-for-9 during the weekend, also walking on two occasions while driving in a run and scoring three times.
