Fannin County Sheriff Appointed to Ga. Board of Public Safety

House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) today announced the appointment of Fannin County Sheriff Dane Kirby to the Georgia Board of Public Safety.
“Sheriff Kirby has already established himself as a real leader in the law enforcement community,” said House Speaker David Ralston. “I know he will serve with distinction on this important board.”
The 15-member Board of Public Safety is charged with setting the general policy for the Department of Public Safety.
Dane Kirby assumed the office of sheriff of Fannin County on January 1, 2009. Prior to attaining that position, he served in law enforcement for 20 years as a trooper with the Georgia State Patrol, deputy sheriff in Gilmer County, and police officer for the City of Blue Ridge Police Department. Sheriff Kirby is a member of the Georgia Sheriff’s Association, the National Sheriff’s Association, and an advisory board member of the Zell Miller Parkway Drug Task Force. Sheriff Kirby is a life long resident of Fannin County and a graduate of Fannin County High School.
Sheriff Kirby’s three year term on the Georgia Board of Public Safety runs through January 20, 2014.
