William Isaac McVey, Jr.: Obituary

The Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the death of Mr. William Isaac McVey, Jr., better known as “Junior,” of Charleston, TN, formerly of Blue Ridge, who passed away Tuesday, February 01, 2011 in the Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, TN.Mr. McVey was born in Fannin County on January 5, 1925 to the late William Isaac McVey and Una Amanda Cox McVey. He was a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church and was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife Nellie Carney McVey; sisters, Eva Mae Mull and Bonnie Harper; and brother Everette McVey. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William Freddie and Anne McVey of Mokena, Illinois; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie Teresa and John Sampson of Charleston, TN; sisters, Anabelle Sowers and Imogene Stewart, both of Blue Ridge; five grandchildren, Amanda (Jack) Morgan, John David Sampson, Christopher Winford McVey, Tiffany Sampson, and Robby Sampson; and two great grandchildren, Isaac Asher Morgan and MacKenzie Hannah Sampson.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Norman Carney officiating. Music will be by Imogene Stewart. Interment will follow in Sugar Creek Church Cemetery with military honors by North Georgia Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
