Fannin Spanks Banks

The Lady Rebels of Fannin County took on the Lady Leopards of Banks County on their home court and came away with a 56-23 victory. The Lady Rebels used a balanced attack to spank Banks. Eleven different players scored, five of whom scored five plus points. Only Cherish Evans scored in double figures (10). She also finished with four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Conversely, the visitors only had seven players score total; just two of which had more than five points. The game began as a tightly contested contest with both teams playing tenacious defense. The Lady Leopards were in full court woman to woman defense, while the Fannin crowd begged for a full court press from the home team. The visitors built a slight early lead; however, the Lady Rebels tied the game 6-6 with just under two and half minutes left in the first quarter. The Lady Rebels then began what would become a 17-6 run by the end of the half.

The first quarter ended with Fannin County leading 10-6. The second quarter began with the Lady Rebels in a crowd pleasing full court press defense which lead to a myriad of turnovers, which combined with the Lady Rebels hitting three pointer after three pointer led to the home team having a 23-12 lead at half time.

The second half began much like the first half ended with the Lady Rebels scoring the first two baskets. The Lady Leopards came out in press defense, but the Lady Rebels sped right by their hapless counterparts. With the game getting out of hand, the home team backed off the press and switched to a zone to force its guests to hit from the outside. The Lady Rebels took a 36-20 lead into the final quarter.

Lauren Junnier hit a three to begin the fourth quarter, her only points of the game. The night got no better for the Lady Leopards as the home team scored 20 points in the final quarter while limiting the visitors to a total of three points, even though the starters were pulled with just over two minutes left in the game.
