Snow Doesn’t Stop Fannin’s Flow

Fannin County experienced a blusterous blizzard last week; however, the Fannin County Road Department was able to handle the snow storm without an abundance of tragedies or incidents.Major Keith Bosen of the Fannin County Police Department had nothing but praise for the way the storm was handled.

“My hat’s off to the County Road department. We actually did a better job than some of the areas south of here.” Bosen said.

There were only two reported car accidents that were not caused by the snow, but by driver error. Bosen attributed the lack of accidents to people heeding the police department’s advice to stay home.

“Most folks have listened,” he said.

According to Bosen there was not a rise in crime.

“If anything there was a slight drop,” he said.

Although there are still some streets not cleared because of the rural nature of the area and a lack of snow hitting the streets, all of the main streets have been cleared and a sence of normalcy is returning to Fannin County. The police department is still using the four-wheel drive vehicles to navigate. Bosen expects the county to return to normal police cruisers within the next couple of days.

Local BP gas station clerk, Amanda Vandeneykel agreed with Bosen’s assessment.

“They did a good job,” she said.

Workers such as Vandeneykel did have difficulty getting to work. Vandeneykel said, “I couldn’t get out of my house for two days.”

Although the snow slowed, it did not bring business to a standstill. Vandeneykel pointed out that many regular customers managed to find their way into local businesses.
