Vera Denton McConnell, 100, of Ducktown, TN. went to be with the Lord on Dec 22, 2010.
She was born in Sevierville, TN, and lived in the Bluegrass community of Knoxville, TN until 1939 when she married Carl E. McConnell of Ducktown , TN. She lived the remainder of her life there in Ducktown.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Carl E. McConnell, her parents, and six of her seven siblings.
She is survived by her sons Earl Jack McConnell(Sandra) of Cornelius, NC; Ralph E. McConnell(Kathy)of Chattanooga, TN; her sister Geneva Matlock of Knoxville, TN; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was the oldest member of the Ducktown United Methodist Church. She was a gifted craftsman, and displayed many of her talents as a member of the Red Hills Home Demonstration Club. She was active in establishing the Ducktown Public Library.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec 29, 2010 at Finch Cochran Funeral Home, McCaysville, GA. The family will receive friends from 12 a.m.-2 p.m. EST at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, however those desiring may make contributions to Ducktown United Methodist Church or the Ducktown Public Library.
