Rebels Comeback, Beat Bobcats

The Fannin County Rebels hosted the Gilmer County Bobcats in a back and forth basketball game that the home team was able to win 59-51. Led by senior point guard Chris McNerney and his game high 24 points, 18 of which came from three point range, the Rebels used a late game 12-4 run to secure the victory.The game featured numerous runs by both teams. The score was tied 8-8 with three minutes left in the first quarter. Both teams tried to work the post game as well as play zone on the defensive end. The highly competitive quarter ended with Gilmer up one 13-12.

The game was tied 15-15 with seven minutes left in the half, when Gilmer used a 12-0 run to go up 27-15, with just under two minutes left in the half. The Rebels responded with a 7-0 run of their own, sparked by Senior Jordan Farmer’s three pointer and fast break lay up created by a steal. The halftime score was 29-25 Gilmer.

The halftime show was provided by Studio One in Ellijay. It featured several groups of young girls, who provided the home crowd with several crowd pleasing Hip Hop dance routines. Many of the home fans obviously came for the half time show, because the stands were considerably less full after half time.

The third quarter featured more back and forth action between the two teams with both teams exchanging leads. The quarter ended with Gilmer up by three 41-39.

The Rebels used a 12-4 run in the fourth quarter to take the lead for good. They were up 51-43 with 2:00 left in the game. The Bobcats did no go quietly. They cut the lead to five with 45.3 seconds left in the game, but were unable to get any closer. McNerney was certainly the star of the game, combining three steals and a block to go with his 24 points, the first 15 of which came on all three pointers.
