The Minnesota Vikings fired coach Brad Childress early Monday morning. Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier has been appointed interim head coach. Childress had a record of 40-37.Childress had been under fire for several weeks now. He has long been rumored to be feuding with quarterback Brett Favre, and he has reportedly lost the confidence and respect of many of his players. He also purportedly upset, Vikings owner, Zygi Wolf when he cut wide receiver Randy Moss, a mere four weeks after the Vikings traded a third round pick to get him, without discussing the move with management.

The Vikings sit at 3-7 after many prognosticators had them picked to go to the Super Bowl; however, this season has been as miserable as last year was magical. The Vikings went 12-4 and lost to the Saints in the NFC championship game. Brett Favre had the best year of his career throwing only seven interceptions, the only time in his career his has had single digit interceptions. He has 17 already this year.

During last year’s run the Vikings extended Childress’ contract through 2013, 13′ is a team option, which obviously won’t be exercised. Childress coached the Vikings for four full seasons improving his record each year, going: 6-10; 8-8; 10-6; and finally 12-4.
