182 lbs. of Pop Tabs Wins FFA 9th Place in Region Competition

Fannin County High School and Fannin County Middle School FFA members attended the North Region Area 1 Rally. The rally was held at the FFA camp in Covington on September 8-9. North Region Area 1 Rally is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of the previous school year and kick off the current year. Over 600 FFA members attended the rally from across Area 1.
Fannin County High School FFA was awarded 9th place in the chapter of the year competition out of over 30 chapters. Area 1 officers sponsored a community service project last school year of collecting pop tabs. The pop tabs are turned in for recycling and the money received was donated to Heifer International. Fannin County High School FFA members collected 182 pounds of pop tabs and won the community service challenge trophy. Fannin County High School’s 15 member team competed in the Amazing Race and its top 6 officers competed in the Opening and Closing Ceremony.
In another competition, Fannin County High School FFA member Cole Quintrell placed 1st out of 17 contestants in the Tractor Operation and Maintenance Career Development Event. The event was held at Berry College on September 13. Cole had to operate a tractor and a implement through a timed course, complete a problem solving practicum, and take a written test. He will advance to the state competition which will be held at ABAC in Tifton, Ga.
