Mrs. Elizabeth “Betsy” Long Smith: Obituary

Elizabeth “Betsy” Long Smith, age 59, of Turtletown, TN passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Copperhill, TN, she was the daughter of the late Warren G. “Ferg” and Jimmie Lou McNabb Smith. She was a loving wife of 34 years, mother and grandmother. Betsy enjoyed spending time with family, cooking and loved helping others. She also enjoyed spending time with her fellow retiree’s from the Fannin County DFCS.

Survivors include her husband, Jeff Smith of the home; daughter, Amanda Smith of Murphy, NC; sisters, Ruby Jean Brown of Ducktown, TN, Kathy Cherry of Turtletown, TN, and Susie and Joe Ballew of Turtletown, TN; grandchildren, Trent Smith and Nicole Williamson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Andy and Peggy Smith of Dalton, GA, Leon and Ann Pate of Dalton, GA, Chucky and Deana Pate of Cleveland, TN and Amy and Tom Allen of Calhoun, GA; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday July 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Min. Keith Blalock officiating. Music will be provided by Janice Reid and Tracy Blalock. Interment will follow in the Zion Hill Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Brandon Ballew, Tommy Cherry, Slate Lowe and Ryker Lowe. The Fannin County DFCS retiree’s will serve as an honorary escort. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
