Murphy, NC— Cherokee County Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced on February 27th, 2015 Cherokee County Dispatch received a call from a residence in Topton where the caller stated that there was a woman bleeding in the home from her eyes and that there was blood all over the pillow. The caller also stated that he was armed and that there was a standoff situation at the home. The caller stated that there was a hostage and that the police were all around his home.

Sheriff Palmer was notified and deputies were dispatched to the residence. While en route to the residence, the caller said that the woman disappeared and that she probably did since she was a practitioner of Voodoo. The caller stated that he still saw the other people and realized he would go to jail, but was ok with that. He stated that he would eat well if in Jail.

Upon arrival, deputies found the caller to be alone. Deputies were unable to find any bleeding females or a hostage situation, and no police were at the residence other than Sheriff Deputies that responded to the call.

The caller was transported to a local medical facility for observation and evaluation. No criminal charges are anticipated in this case.

Sheriff Palmer stated

“This kind of situation has received a lot of attention in the media lately. No one knows what caused this individual to behave as he did. We train for these situations but with all the variables out there we do the best we can and hope for an outcome such as what happened today with this individual getting the help he needs.”
