Mrs. Catherine R. Kiker, age 88, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012 in the Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge, GA.Mrs. Kiker was born in Alma, GA on September 27, 1923 to the late Grant Roberts and Ethel Gilmore Roberts. She moved from Alma to Blue Ridge in the mid-1940s and taught 2nd grade at Blue Ridge Elementary until she met her husband Charles. Catherine married Charles Kiker, Jr. in 1946 in the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church at which time she became a homemaker. She was very involved in activities in the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Women’s Ministry and helped for many years to organize the Annual Harest Sale which raised funds to help with missions work. She was a founder of the “Chrismon” ornament project actually making the first “Chrismon” angel. Mrs. Kiker was very involved in Sunday School at Blue Ridge UMC and was also a founder of the pre-school program. Mrs. Kiker was a charter member of the Fannin Regional Hospital Auxillary or “Pink Ladies.” Mrs. Kiker loved to bake and was known for bringing her goodies to various civic meetings. Mrs. Kiker was devoted to her church and her Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kiker, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Charles Kiker III of Blue Ridge; daughter, Linda Kiker of Blue Ridge; grandchild, Mark Thomason; great grandchilren, Emily Thomason and Kodie Thomason.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Burrell officiating. Pallbearers will be David Hoodenpyle, Dugger Kiker, Scott Kiker, Cadman Kiker, Mike Queen, Gordon Riddoch, Preston Foster, and David Proffitt. Honorary Pallbearers will be Fannin Regional Hospital Auxillary “Pink Ladies”.
Interment will follow in Chastain Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
