Braxton Cheatham: A Historic Performance at the 2025 GHSA A State Track & Field Championships

At the 2025 Georgia High School Association (GHSA) A State Track & Field Championships, held on May 9–10, 2025, Braxton Cheatham of Fannin County High School delivered a remarkable performance, etching his name into the school’s athletic history.

State Champion in the 400m Dash

Cheatham clinched the state title in the 400-meter dash with an impressive time of 49.13 seconds, showcasing his speed and endurance. This victory not only secured his place as a state champion but also marked a significant achievement for Fannin County High School.

Additional Medal-Winning Performances

  • 200m Dash: Cheatham finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.40 seconds, demonstrating his versatility across multiple sprint events.

  • Long Jump: He placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet 1.5 inches, adding another medal to his collection.

  • 4x400m Relay: As the anchor leg of the 4×400-meter relay team, Cheatham helped secure a fourth-place finish, completing his leg in 50 seconds and contributing to the team’s overall performance.

A Historic Achievement

With medals in four events at the state championships, Cheatham became the first male track and field athlete in Fannin County High School history to achieve this feat.
