Fannin Advances To Sweet 16 With Route Of Vidalia

The Fannin Rebels punched their ticket to host the Sweet Sixteen with a 41-7 victory over Vidalia High School.

 

The Rebels made their mark early as Lawson Sullivan took the ball to the end zone with a 27 yard run. Matthew Ponton’s extra point made the score 7-0 with 9:31 left in the first quarter.

 

Luke Holsonback, Braden Taylor, and CJ Reece worked on defense for four quick downs making the Indians punt away.

 

The Rebels fumbled and gave the Indians the ball back. They tried to capitalize with a long pass into Rebel territory. A host of Rebel stops led to a Braden Taylor interception.

 

Carson Callihan led the Rebels charging down the field into Indian territory and finishing the Rebel drive with the score. Ponton added one more to make the score 14-0 with 2:21 left in the first.

 

A 36 yard Sullivan pass to Elijah Weaver set the Rebels up for the score as Sullivan added a one yard rushing touchdown. Ponton added one more to make the score 21-0 with just under 10 minutes left in the half.

 

The Indian momentum came to a halt as Cooper Born made an interception at the 20 yard line putting the Rebel offense back on the field. After three plays and a 69 yards Sullivan run, the rebels added another touchdown to their total. With the Ponton PAT, the Rebels led 28-0 with just under four minutes left in the half.

 

Holsonback, Born, and Reece led the defense forcing the Indians to punt.

 

A 43 yard Callihan run put the Rebels within ten yards of the goal line, but they were unable to capitalize after three incompletions and a missed field goal.

 

The team exchanged scoreless drives before Sullivan ran the ball 49 yards to the end zone for a touchdown. The score plus Ponton’s extra point made the score 35-0 with 7:03 left in the third quarter.

 

After Born and Holsonback made big defensive stops, Dockery recovered a loose ball at the 31 yard line putting the Rebel offense back in Indian territory. The Rebels capitalized with a Callihan rush for the score. The extra point attempt was no good, so the score was 41-0 with 3:20 left in the third quarter.

 

The Rebels and Indians exchanged scoreless drives then Vidalia was able to capitalize on their run game to get in the end zone. Their extra point was good to make the score 41-7 with five minutes left in the game.

 

As the clock rolled down, the Rebels took the victory to host Jeff Davis in the Sweet Sixteen at 7:30 at FCHS Stadium Friday, November 22.
