Dalton, GA – The 8-0 Fannin County Rebels will travel to Dalton, Georgia Friday night for their biggest game of the year thus far.
Fannin and Christian Heritage are tied atop the Region A D-1 Standings, and Friday night will tell us a lot when it comes to the GHSA A D-1 Playoff picture.
As of right now, before Fridays game is played, the Rebels are the #1 overall seed- meaning they would have homefield advantage throughout the entire playoffs.
With another tough test vs Gordon Lee still looming on the Rebels schedule, it is evermore important that they take care of business in Dalton Friday night.
What To Expect:
Fannin enters the game as a -14 point favorite, and there are a plethora of reason’s why I think they will cover, but the main reason start’s with a C and ends with an N.
Carson Callihan.
Callihan enters Friday’s contest having already eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark on the ground (1,121) and is averaging over 140 yards rushing per game, while his 18 total touchdowns this year are good enough for second in the Region.
Contrary to the point im trying to make, Christian Heritage has been pretty solid vs the run the year. Actually, their weakness seems to be against the pass as they’re giving up 250+ pass yards per game.
But, even though they’re coming off a game vs Chattooga in which they faced the states leading rusher, the Lions haven’t seen a rushing attack like Fannin’s. Pair the Rebels OLine with the tandem of Callihan and Lawson Sullivan, put it up against the weaker interior line of Christian Heritage, and I think you’ll be seeing a lot of Blue in the endzone Friday night.
As the night goes on and the Lion’s start selling out to stop the run, then I look for the Sullivan-Taylor connection to develop in the deep passing game. Christian Heritage has proven their secondary is shaky, and #2 and #4 in blue will exploit that given the opportunity.
While I do think this will be a great game with a big time atomosphere, I look for the Rebels to play spoiler in Dalton and come back to Blue Ridge with a 35-14 victory..
