Georgia Gerontology Society Honors Rep. Lee Hawkins with 2023 David Levine Legislative Award

PRESS RELEASE – State Representative Lee Hawkins (R-Gainesville), chairman of the House Health Committee, was recently honored by the Georgia Gerontology Society (GGS) with the 2023 David Levine Legislative Award. Rep. Hawkins accepted the award via a virtual ceremony on Tuesday, July 25.

“I was honored to receive the 2023 Georgia Gerontology Society David Levine Legislative Award,” said Rep. Hawkins. “Though elected by the people of House District 27, as a member of the General Assembly, I have the privilege of helping address the needs of all the citizens across our great state. Adults age 60 and over represent the fastest growing segment of our population. As a legislator, I am committed to doing what I can for those who have helped to make Georgia a great place to live throughout their lives. I applaud GGS and its many members, including the Georgia Council on Aging, for the work that they do on behalf of Georgia’s seniors.”

The David Levine Legislative Award is given to a state legislator who has sponsored or co-sponsored legislation that would improve the quality of life for older adults, has consistently supported aging issues and has been willing to listen to the concerns of Georgia’s elderly. This award has been named in honor of Dr. David L. Levine, who devoted his adult life advocating for those who could not advocate for themselves. Recent award recipients include former State Representatives Terry England and Kevin Tanner and State Senators Matt Brass and Brian Strickland.

For more than 65 years, the Georgia Gerontology Society has reached across the state to connect, support and educate those working with older adults and their families. GGS is the largest state organization of multidisciplinary professionals in the field of aging. Learn more about the GGS here.
